Guest Blog: Keep On Track This Season

The first of our guest blogger slots kicks off with some incredible advice from Vicki Sait on how to tackle this years biggest trend ... Athleisure.

Vicki is a 23 year old fashion journalist graduate who has a passion for fitness fashion or athleisure as all the fashionistas are now calling it. She has been writing her blog for the past couple of years and focuses on sportswear and lifestyle.

Diet and fitness plans flood in pretty much as soon as the New Year celebrations have begun. “I vow to give up chocolate.” “I will go to the gym four times a week”. Yes, we’ve heard it all before, and even with all the good intentions, these promises are probably best made in the middle of the year when the weather makes you want to get up and go, not when you feel like hunkering down with a coffee and Netflix binge. However, the surge in fitness regimes and promises means that one trend is at the forefront of our minds, and it involves wearing comfortable shoes. Hurray! Fit fashion is nothing new to us now, we’ve become regulars of the club, but the luxe fitness trend just seems to get better and better every year.

So, how to wear your new gym kit from class, to the office and then to after work drinks? Well it’s easy, apparently. And I applaud those that try because it can be a tricky track to run down. I don’t want to see sweaty jogging bottoms and a hoodie in the office (believe me, no one will appreciate that) but what I do admire is the combination of slick patterned leggings, some funky new trainers (extra points for wedge trainers) and a jersey, neutral top which will take you from your office meeting to circuits class in one easy step (or lunge, or burpee if you’re really brave). After flicking through some of this month’s mags I noticed that it hasn’t slipped the minds of those in the know either and what they say makes perfect sense to me. Less is more and if you’re nervous about what the boss might make of your new Nike trainers then might I suggest tip-toeing into this trend before you dive in head to toe in a full tracksuit (NB: this is not sports luxe).

Build your outfit from one on trend sports luxe piece and then add or take away from it depending on whether you look like your about to take on the world in a boxercise class or wow your boss in a meeting. A-line skirts are a great place to begin, a neoprene material and bright colour will maximise the most of this piece, add a nice top and sandals if trainers are too bold. Now I know I said to avoid the full tracksuit look but if you pick just the tracksuit bottom you could be on to something. Pair with a bright heel and a tailored top then you can work your comfy trousers with no problem, I’d advise keeping them navy or black and opt for red heels (Louboutin? Why not!). Other quick updates to the wardrobe for this trend can involve dungarees and a tee, a laser cut skirt or top, and a slip dress paired with trainers. Also to take this trend into high summer, you can fashion a crop top with high waisted trousers, a blazer and trainers and feel suited and booted for those long hot days. This athleisure look should embody everything you need to create a smart and sporty outfit which leaves you feeling confident when transitioning from studio to street. Step out in a new style this season in technical fabrics, bold pieces and fashion silhouettes. Get set, go.
